MY STORY

Where It All Began

My musical journey began at the age of six with piano lessons. I loved both the piano and my piano teacher. Learning piano fed my musical thirst until band became an option in sixth grade. I quickly jumped on the opportunity by playing the clarinet. Joining the band program opened many doors for me, including becoming one of the youngest Drum Majors of the Marching Band program as well as one of the youngest first chair players in our Symphonic band. Being a Drum Major was the turning point that helped solidify my career focus as an instrumental music teacher. As a Drum Major I was able to lead students in performances and provide leadership.

I pursued my undergraduate degree from Northwest Missouri State University quickly followed by my Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of Missouri Kansas City. I've taught the past six years in my hometown of Independence Missouri. I was the Band Director for grades 6 - 12 music as well as Marching Band, Pep Band, and Concert Band. I also participated in a community band called "Northwinds" which membership primarily consisted of fellow band directors. Although I'm new to California, I look forward to finding and being a part of a community band again.

I am excited for this new adventure with COCOSPA and to be your new Director of Instrumental Music!
